Interview with Claire Delap, Take Monday
Introducing Take Monday
Claire Delap runs Take Monday – an online retailer which sells luxury travel cases – all of which are designed by Claire in her home city of Paris. The cases have been inspired by her travel experiences (hours spent in flight, gathering wires, forgetting chargers). She designed the range so that you can quickly and easily gather everything you need to get away for the weekend in a bag that’s super practical and very chic too.
After our shoot together we asked her a few questions about her experience of working with us….
How did you shoot your work before coming to Article Studio?
On my iPhone, using a lightbox set up on my kitchen table which I bought on Amazon. Creating an awful mess with props everywhere.
What input did Article Studio have pre-shoot?
Working with Article Studio in the early stages helped me to understand the difference between non-professional photos and professional photography.
But what made even more of an impact was that I began to understand the difference between an average professional photographer and a great one. I realised that with their artistic vision, what I saw as just products could be elevated into something much more powerful, that the photos could tell a story (to use a cliché), or subliminally lead a viewer into the world you're trying to sell.
Did you have a clear idea of what you wanted from the shoot?
In a way yes. I knew the type of images which appealed to me. I knew the type of style which appealed to me. I knew the story I wanted to tell but I had no idea how to achieve any of this or where to even begin. Lenny and I worked on a mood board in advance so we knew the vision before we started thinking about props etc.
How did the shoot go?
The shoot was wonderful! I flew from Paris to deliver the props and because I wanted to meet Lenny. His way of working is both confident and easy going.
He showed me what he was doing as he began to take photos, he listened to all of my thoughts and made sure to more than cover what I had requested as deliverables. I couldn't stay for the full shoot so he kept me in the loop remotely, sharing photos in real time for my opinions/notes.
What impact has working with Article had on your business?
Using Article Studio photography has given me the content I needed to seriously approach buyers and press. The photos now form my website as well as my lookbook and sell sheets (which is how I sell my collection to retailers)
I also use them for social media content and I'm currently testing them in instagram and facebook ads.
With photos of this quality, my brand takes on its own voice and its own power. It stands up against heavily established brands. I can communicate to buyers and customers how far the products can go and what they have been designed to do.
It looks like we have something to say and that we know how to say it!
